Antique Khotan hand-knotted wool rug, 110 years old. Circa 1910.
5’8 x 10’9.5”

This spectacular piece has varying hues from bold pink to blush to subtle sage. There is a color change in the center of the piece adding to the allure! This color change is no mistake, but a part of the artistry. The wool was dyed in small batch vegetable and insect dyes. These rugs took months and months to create - around halfway through the dye batch changed resulting in an alternate color on one side!

There are a few patches in this piece, see photo closeups for more detail. I love the character that these patches add. One patch adds a touch of different fringe to the edge!

Produced in Khotan, an area situated along the silk trade route in the southern region of Xinjiang. Produced in the city of Khotan which is Located in Eastern Turkestan. Antique Khotan rugs have the collectibility and investment value of Persian rugs and combine Chinese and Tibetan design influence as well as Persian and Turkish design influence.
