This antique Sarouk is in great condition. The pile is lush and worn down *slightly* in a few spots - see photo and video for notes about this rug, fringe (a recent addition to this rug) and condition!
Persian Sarouk rugs woven in a small village located outside of Arak, have become iconic Sarouk rugs. They are highly sought after for their bold pink and red hues.
But they didn't start out this color!
When these carpets first entered the market in the early 20th Century, American's didn't react well to the color. These rugs originally had lighter rust-brick reds.
In response, masters at dying wool came up with techniques for masterfully re-dying the fields of these rugs. Dealer's nearly everywhere had these Sarouks re-dyed.
What an evolution! I love knowing how these now-iconic Sarouk's came to be. These bold hues have stood the test of time and are some of the most sought after pieces in my shop right now!
