
This rug has some beautiful examples of abrash, which is a subtle (and sometimes not so subtle!) color change in the wool. These rugs were made over a period of several months with the artisans dying the wool as they went. Each dye batch was hand dyed with plant, vegetable (and insect!) dyes and the color could vary a bit from batch to batch. When the weaver picked up a new batch of freshly dyed wool, it could vary a bit in color from the previous row. This is called abrash. An endearing detail!
