A absolutely spectacular Antique Persian Serapi with an oversized medallion.
The term Serapi is used to distinguish the finest antique rugs that were handmade in the Heriz district in Northwest Persia in the lat 19th Century. The quality and large scale design of these pieces is unmatched.
This piece has a sought after rust/red classic color and indigo with wonderful abrash (subtle color change in the wool due to small batch plant and vegetable dying).
The ends have been expertly repaired (see photo of the back corner of the rug). The texture on this rug is low pile. The ends are slightly uneven lengths (see photos). Over all this piece is in stunning condition for being 140 years old.
